The workshop “Demarcations – Border Crossings – Eliminations of Boundaries” is the fourth workshop on Turkey-related research in Germany organized by TürkeiEuropaZentrum (TEZ) and Network Turkey at Hamburg University. The workshop is part of the programme „Blickwechsel. Contemporary Turkey Studies” (Stiftung Mercator). This time it is included into the Turkologentag 2016 of GTOT. The workshop will take place on September 15 and 16. Its aim is to improve the exchange between young researchers from various academic fields focusing on Turkey’s past and present.
This year’s focus is on any kind of boundaries – regarding external and internal political borders, boundaries within Turkish society, power struggles in between politics and society, as well as any form of mental demarcations and eliminations of borders. In four panels on specific topics – “Minorities”, “Historical Narratives”, “Islam and Politics” and “External Borders” – young researchers shall cross disciplinary borders and discuss their projects and possible theories and methodological approaches.
The workshop language will be German. Selected papers will also be published in the workshop’s series “Junge Perspektiven der Türkeiforschung in Deutschland” (VS Springer). For further information, and application procedures see:
